Yumthang Valley – Valley of Beauty

Yumthang Valley – Valley of Beauty

The Yumthang Valley, also known as ‘Valley of Flowers’, is a nature sanctuary with river, hot springs, yaks and grazing pasture on rolling meadows surrounded by the Himalayan mountains. The valley is situated in the North Sikkim District of Sikkim state in India. It is situated at a height of 3564 meters (11693 feet) and at a distance of 150 kilometers (93 mi) from the capital Gangtok.

Best time to visit Yumthang valley is on April or in October. You can see the blossoming Rhododendron at the month of April. You can travel from Gangtok to Lachung (the nearest village where accommodation is available) by booking a full vehicle or shared one and stay over night. It will cost around 20000/- bucks for a full car booking with hotel.

We started our at 10:00 am from Gangtok. It will take around 5-6 hours . At road you will get Dikchu Dam. Dikchu is a village lies about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) upstream of the confluence of the Dikchu River with the Teesta River and is the site of the 96 MW Dikchu Hydroelectric Power Project. The view of the dam from the road is very beautiful.

When we reached at hotel its already very cold. We had dinner and went to bed early as we need to start early on the next day.

First sunlight on the snow covered mountain

We became speechless by viewing the spectacular beauty through the window. We started at 6 o’clock on next morning. Due to snowfall, the hills and roads are covered with thick layer of snow. We were very excited.

At road we saw animals like ‘Yak’s, ‘Horses’. The beauty at the road was mesmerizing. We saw some frozen waterfalls which were magical.

At last we reached at Yumthang Valley. The views of the valley are beautiful. You need wear sunglasses to protect eyes from the reflection of sunlight on snow. Before going to valley, you need to wear rubber boots which are available there.

Hills covered with snow

We spend around 1 hour there. We played with snow. Some stalls are there where you can have coffee to keep yourself warm. From Yumthang you can go Zero Point.

Zero point lies in the area of Yumthang, Sikkim which is situated above fifteen thousand feet high above the sea level. The place personifies the beauty of nature and share a close approximate distance with the Indo Chinese border. The place is grazed by nomadic shepherds and one can see such beauty of it.

A Trip to Hogenakkal Falls

Hogenakkal Falls – Niagra falls of India

Hogenakkal is a waterfall in South India on the Kaveri river in the Dharmapuri district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.It is located 180 km (110 mi) from Bangalore, 147 km (91 mi) from Kolar and 46 km (29 mi) from Dharmapuri.Sometimes referred to as the “Niagara Falls of India,” – Wikipedia

We visited Hogenakkal falls on the month of November, 2019. As per the guide, the season is March April. We started from Hosur, Tamil Nadu. It is around 95 km from Hosur. We booked a cab and it took two and half hours to reach Hogenakkal from Hosur.

After reaching there you need to book Coracles – Round basketlike boats made of bamboo. If you pay extra bucks then the boatman will take you to the actual beauty.

You can buy chips, cold drinks, foods from the Floating Shop. Also there are small islands, where hot and fresh fish fry is available.

The boatman took us to a nice place where we took bath under the waterfall. The fishes were doing pedicure. The feeling was really awesome. You will feel like Heaven is here only.

Series of Waterfalls

We spend around two hours there… and not felt boared for a single moment.

Now it’s time to return. Though we are not in the mood of coming back… but we had to as all the boats need to return with in 5 p.m.

While returning the view of sunset at Kaveri river was very beautiful. Have a look below.

It was once in a lifetime experience. If you visit Bangalore or any nearby place, you should visit Hogenakkal once.
